Markus James recorded 5 critically-acclaimed albums of original, blues-based songs with traditional musicians in Mali, West Africa, which led to US performances including New York’s Lincoln Center and LA’s Santa Monica Pier, and a feature on NPR’s “All Things Considered”. Subsequently Markus recorded with drummers in North Mississippi, in settings ranging from a barn to a porch, and this resulted in the album “Head For The Hills”, his most successful release to date, which included the instrumental “On A Mississippi Porch”, which was featured in the HBO Oprah Winfrey movie “The Secret Life Of Henrietta Lacks”.
